Abstract
1,061,638. Printing processes. JOHN DICKINSON SCHNEIDER Inc. Feb. 5, 1964, No. 4855/64. Heading B6C. [Also in Division G2] During the " run " of a printing press the material being printed is imprinted on a margin, selvedge or other waste portion with an image which allows the press operator to effect a visual assessment as to the sufficiency or otherwise of the ink on the plate and the degree of impression adjustment (if any) required. The plate is produced photomechanically and the imprint derives from a control strip " which is imaged on the plate during its manufacture such image taking the form of three sections A, B and C, Fig. 4, the first of which allows a visual determination of the state of exposure and development during the manufacture of the plate whilst tho second and third are employed during the printing run for the reasons referred to above. Under exposure or development will leave the areas S lighter than the areas R a vice versa result being apparent if the plate is over exposed or developed. Similarly if the imprint on the printed material shows lighter areas S on the section B too little ink is being supplied to the plate. Too much ink is being supplied if the areas R are lighter. If impression adjustment is necessary the section C will show slurred effects on the printed material and as the grouped parallel lines are arranged at right angles to each other the kind of adjustment, i.e. axial or circumferential, will be readily apparent.
