Abstract

1,098,401. Boxes for liquids. REED PAPER GROUP Ltd. Jan. 6, 1966 [March 26, 1965], No. 12994/65. Heading B8P. An outer protective carton to support and protect a collapsible bottle or container has an apertured member which serves to receive the neck of the bottle, and a reinforcement extends across the apertured member and engages the box so as to locate the apertured member positively at the top of the box against upward or downward movement. The apertured member 43, Figs. 1 and 2, is folded from the box blank to form a reinforcing step 50 whose ends are received in cut-outs 53, 54 in the box sides and closure flaps. A tab 60 may be pressed away from the aperture for ease of insertion of the bottle neck and then restored, and the side flaps have tear-off portions 62 so that the pouring spout maybe exposed without undoing the flaps. In a modification made from a single blank, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), the apertured member (73) has an extension flap (81) which is folded to the parallel to and spaced from the member (73) extension (85) being received in slots in the box sides. An opposing flap (71) is similarly folded so as to overlie and bend under the flap (81) as an additional reinforcement. The neck of the bottle is inserted through a wide aperture (77), and slid into the aperture (75), the wide aperture (77) being then closed by the tab (78) to maintain the neck in position.
