Abstract

1,105,551. Transformers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 9 March, 1965 [11 March, 1964], No. 10240/64. Heading H1T. An electrostatic shield for inductive apparatus consists of an annular insulating former carrying conductive turns or part turns 15 (Fig. 1) which may consist of an open-circuited toroidal winding having adjacent turns separated by spaces or overlapping and separated by insulating strip 13, the conductive turns or strips being connected together by conductive strip members 18, 23. The conductive turns or part turns 15 may be separate strips or groups of such strips insulated from one another. Shields may be used to reduce electrostatic stress concentrations at winding ends or to control the distribution of impulse voltage along a winding, connection to the winding being made through conductor 20.
