A door latch mechanism comprises a pair of jaw elements 13 for pivotal mounting at the free edge of a hinged door and having counter swinging movement from an unlatched position to a latched position to engage a striker pin therebetween, a pair of control plates 15 fixed to the jaw elements each engageable by a detent 21 'or 24 to bold the jaw elements in the latched position, a spring 58 biasing the jaw elements towards the unlatched position, and a pair of manually operable levers 27, 34 each coupled to one of the detents for disengaging the latter from the respective control plate, the levers having co-acting parts 33, 38 through which movement of one of the levers in detent-disengaging direction simultaneously results in movement of the other lever in detent-disengaging direction. As shown, the levers 27, 34 are operable against a spring 39 by an "outside" push button stem 32 and by an "inner" door handle through linkage coupled to a lever 43 which underlies an extension 44 of detent 21. The latch mechanism is lockable by means of a sill button through a link 54 coupled to a lever 47, an arm 49 of which, in the locked position shown, is hooked over the extension 44. An arm 53 of the lever 47 is coupled to a lever 55 operable by an "outside" key lock, and the lever 47 is held in its locking or unlocking position by an over-centred spring 57.
