Abstract

1,110,217. Aircraft de-icing systems. M. H. GODDEN Ltd. 31 Aug., 1965 [5 Sept., 1964; 3 Nov., 1964], Nos. 36503/64 and 44684/64. Heading B7W. An aircraft de-icing system comprises an electrical resistance mat 1 bonded to the inner side of a metal skin 2 defining the surface to be de-iced, as described, a wing leading edge. The mat comprises continuously heated parting strips 4, and cyclically heated areas 5, 6, 7, and is bonded to the skin by an epoxy resin to which aluminium powder has been added to improve its thermal conductivity. The mat consists of glass fibre fabric in which are woven the P.T.F.E. insulated heating wires, and into which are moulded strengthening ribs dimensioned to suit the shape of the wing leading edge. The mat is covered by a plastics or rubber insulating layer 8.
