Abstract
1,117,106. Regulating supercharged I. C. engines; driving gear; cooling systems. KLOCKNERHUMBOLDT-DEUTZ A.G. June 28, 1965 [July 1, 1964], No. 27260/65. Heading F1B. Guide vanes 13, in the turbine 7 of an exhaust driven turbocharger 8 are controlled so that from about half speed to maximum speed, the flow area through the guide vanes is reduced to maintain substantially constant power output. The vanes 13 are adjusted, simultaneously with vanes 14 in the diffuser of the blower, by linkage 15, 55 connected to a floating lever 60 connected at one end to a centrifugal governor 39 and at the other end to a link 64 operated by the fuel control rod 18 of the injection pump 17. The rod 18 is controlled by a speed governor 19 adjusted manually by a control lever 25, the maximum output of the pump being controlled by a three dimensional cam 30 rotatable by a bellows 31 subject to blower output pressure and adjustable axially by lever 25 through linkage 36. The governor 39 also acts through linkage 41 on lever 40 and rod 18 to reduce the fuel supply at high speed. The supercharged air is cooled by cooler 115 and a fan 117 of a radiator 116 is driven through variable speed gearing 119 controlled by lever 25. The engine drive shaft 20 drives the output shaft 6 through a hydromechanical gear, comprising a planetary gear 129 and a hydraulic torque converter 124, and a change speed gearbox 3. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) the turbocharger guide vanes are controlled solely by engine speed by governor 87, the fuel pump being controlled by governor 109 adjusted by pedal 110 and the maximum fuel quantity adjusted by a wedge actuated by a supercharging pressure responsive bellows and by governor actuated rod 95.
