Abstract

1,135,045. Laminated tape. HUNTER DOUGLAS INTERNATIONAL Ltd. 30 Nov., 1965 [2 Dec., 1964], No. 23747/68. Divided out of 1,135,044. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions B2 and E1] A side tape for a Venetian blind ladder tape comprises a first plastics layer 14 on which are disposed a plurality of substantially stretch resistant reinforcing bundles of fibres or threads 20 extending parallel to one another in a longitudinal direction of the tape and spaced apart from each other by a distance greater than the thickness of each of the bundles and a plurality of ridges 18 of plastics material each securing one of said bundles to said first layer. The material of the ridges may form a continuous layer 19 over the first layer. The outermost ridges 181 preferably do not contain bundles of fibres. The tapes are made by extruding a first layer of plastics on a support, feeding a plurality of parallel longitudinally extending spaced apart bundles of fibres or threads on said first layer and extruding a ridge of plastics material on each reinforcing bundle to cover each bundle and secure it to the first layer. Apparatus for making the side tape as described and claimed in Specification 1,135,044 and combining two side tapes on to a ladder tape comprises two opposed endless bands 24 which may have a patterned surface 24 each arranged around three wheels 26, 28 and 30, plastisol from the base layer 14 being extruded from an extrusion head 34 on to band 24 which has been pre-heated by heater 32; it is then fused by a heater 36 and the bundles of threads 20 are laid against the fused layer by a modified extrusion head 38 which also extrudes a series of parallel ribs of plastisol over the bundles, the plastisol then being fused by the heater 40 which may be of the high frequency type. A cutting device supplies connecting strips 44 which are fed between a pair of spaced apart side tapes, the latter being softened by heated rollers 30 so that the connecting strips become bonded to them at each end when cooling takes place to form a ladder tape (Fig. 1, not shown).
