Abstract
1,139,911. Automatic control systems for electrode boilers. R.H. EATON-WILLIAMS. Feb.1, 1966 [Nov.2, 1964], No.44576/64. Heading G3R. A control system for an electrode boiler comprises means adapted to supply feed water to the boiler when the load current is below a predetermined higher value and to bring about the outflow of water from the boiler and the cessation of said supply when the load current reaches the predetermined higher value, and the cessation of said outflow when the load current reaches a predetermined lower value, the arrangement being such that repeated cycling of the feeding/draining operation results. As described, the system includes feed and drain solenoid valves associated with a relay responsive to a current monitoring resistor or transformer in the electrical supply line to the boiler Fig. 1 (not shown). In a modification, the outflow from the boiler is stopped at an intermediate value of load current, the water then boiling away until a predetermined lower value is attained and the feeding/draining/boiling cycle then repeating continuously; this mode of operation may be realised by including a further relay in the circuit Fig.2 (not shown) or by utilizing a voltage sensitive switching assembly associated with a current transformer in the electrical supply line to the boiler, the said assembly including two magnetic reed switches Fig.3 (not shown).
