Abstract

1,169,144. Selecting records. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 24 June, 1968 [25 July, 1967], No. 30071/68. Heading G4M. Each card or strip in a container is provided with a conductive coil 21 ending in a pair of terminals 24 and 25-28 which contact corresponding conductors 30 and 31-34, whereby energization of a selected pair of conductors 30 and 31-34 causes longitudinal displacement of the corresponding card or strip owing to the interaction with the magnetic field provided by polepieces 42, 43. A second pair of polepieces 40, 41 providing an oppositely directed magnetic field may be provided to co-operate with the left-hand vertical limbs of coils 21. Each card or strip may have a second coil 23 on its other face connected through the card or strip as at 22 in series with coil 21.
