Abstract

118,362. Crossley, Sir K. I., and Webb, W. Le P. Oct. 11, 1917. Regulating.-In a four-stroke-cycle engine, the supply of air to the cylinders A, B by a pump C for scavenging or supercharging, or both, is controlled by butterfly valves CV regulated by hand or by the engine governor. Beat, piston, or slide valves may be employed, and may be actuated by cam or other mechanism. In a modification, the air-supply pipe from the pump is provided with a single butterfly valve and a separate beat valve on each cylinder, all the valves being regulated by hand or governor.
