Abstract

1,187,433. Verifying labels. NEW JERSEY MACHINE CORP. 26 Jan., 1967 [28 Jan., 1966; 26 May, 1966], No. 56803/68. Divided out of 1,187,431. Heading B8F. The Specification describes a labelling machine having most of the features of the machine described in the parent Complete Specification. The claims relate to a label-checking machine, including means for detecting verifying marks on a label web being fed therethrough and for stopping the machine, or stopping the feed of the web, or operating a warning signal, or applying a distinguishing mark to a label if the marks sought are not found. The marks are of a material different from that used to print the label indicia. The detecting means is adapted to detect marks that are invisible under normal conditions and may, for example, comprise an ultra-violet light source, Fig. 5 (not shown), for causing a normally invisible luminescent mark to glow visibly, and a photo-tube arranged for detecting the visible glow.
