Abstract

1,218,226. Machines for random fibre webs. CURLATOR CORP. 22 Nov., 1968 [19 Jan., 1968], No. 55564/68. Heading D1N. A machine for forming a random fibre web has two spaced rotary feed means 20, 22 comprising screens 24, 26 which revolve about fixed suction tubes 32, 34 respectively. The tufts of fibres conveyed by means of air ducts 13, 14 are deposited in mats on screens 24, 26 respectively. Rollers 36, 38 doff these mats of fibres onto adjacent feed plates 44, 46 respectively. Feed rolls 40, 42 pick up the mats and convey them to rotary lickerins 52, 54 respectively which comb fibres from the mats as they rotate. An air stream flows from duct 60 into chamber 70, splits at saber 74 and flows over the teeth of lickerins 52, 54 so that the fibres are doffed therefrom aided also by the centrifugal force. These fibres are conveyed by the air streams through passages 75, 76 between cover plates 77, 78 and side walls 80, 82 respectively of an air box 83 to be deposited in random fashion on a screen belt 90 surrounding a suction box 102. The lower part 81 of cover 78 is adjustable so that the thickness of the single random fibre web formed may be varied.
