Abstract

1,218,591. Trimethoxycinnamoylpiperazine derivatives. DELALANDE S.A. 25 March, 1969 [3 April, 1968], No. 16113/68. Heading C2C. Novel piperazine derivatives of the formula in which R represents a C 1-4 aliphatic radical optionally substituted by hydroxyl groups, an aryl-aliphatic radical in which the aliphatic moeity is substituted by hydroxyl groups, a cinnamyl radical, a group of the formula - CH 2 CONHR 1 in which R 1 is a C 1-4 alkyl, aralkyl or optionally -CF 3 or C 1-4 -alkoxysubstituted phenyl radical or a group of the formula -CH 2 CONR 2 R 3 , in which R 2 and R 3 are the same as R 1 or together complete a heterocyclic ring, and the acid addition salts of such compounds, are prepared by reacting a 3,4,5- trimethoxycinnamoyl halide with a piperazine of the formula in an organic solvent in the presence of an acid-acceptor followed, if desired, by formation of the acid addition salt with, e.g., maleic or hydrochloric acid. The piperazine derivatives posses coronary-dilatory, hypotensive, antiarythmic, vaso-dilatory and diuretic properties and may be administered intraveinously, interarterially or orally in the form of compositions containing pharmaceutically acceptable excipients.
