Abstract
1,220,748. Heating resistors. KLIMATECHNIK ANSTALT. 31 May, 1968 [2 June, 1967], No. 26192/68. Heading H5H. A transparent heating element is made by swelling a transparent plastics film in a transparent electrolyte dissolved in a suitable solvent, forming terminal connectors on the film and hermetically sealing the electrolytic heating film so formed in a plastics envelope. Terminal connectors on the envelope engage those on the conducting heating film, both being in the form of silver strips. Although electrolytes have a negative temperature coefficient, the heating element has a positive temperature coefficient because the solvent evaporates into the envelope on rise in temperature. If a hygroscopic material is incorporated in the electrolyte the solvent is re-absorbed on cooling.
