Abstract

1,227,032. Non woven fabric, nap forming apparatus. KAHLER & CO. I/S. 14 June, 1968 [15 June, 1967], No. 28393/68. Headings D1N and D1R. Mineral wool fibres delivered by device 2 are transported in an air stream through chamber 5 and are collected in endless sheet form on a moving conveyor screen 19 which forms at least a substantial part of the end wall of the chamber, and means for withdrawing air through the screen at a rate that can be selectively Controlled across the area of the screen. As shown there are number of separate, but adjacent, suction chambers 31-34 which can be under the action of different suction forces. The varying suction may be obtained by providing each chamber with its own evacuator, or by regulation the suction effect in each chamber from a common evacuator by draft control means. Thus, variation in the thickness or density of the fibres sheet settled on the conveyor above a certain zone is not transmitted to other zones, and consequently no whirls are formed in zones 8 or 9 of the chamber. Coarser fibres may settle, being removed from the chamber through gaps between rollers 12-16 and carried away by worm 18. The conveyor 19 may be the surface of a drum. The fibres may be sprayed with adhesive on leaving device 2.
