Abstract
1,233,730. Welding by fusion. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 29 Oct., 1969 [11 Dec., 1968], No. 58944/68. Heading B3R. [Also in Division F1] A steam turbine blade has a tapered leading edge shield 9 and a triangular shaped tip 11 secured to a main body 7 by electron beam welding. The body 7 may be of steel and the shield 9 and tip 11 of hard steel or cobalt base alloys, the tip 11 having higher erosion resistance than the shield 9. The latter may be divided into inner and outer portions 9A, 9B electron beam welded together, the portion 9B having higher resistance than the portion 9A. The tip 11 may be similarly divided into inner and outer portions (11A, 11B), Fig. 3 (not shown).
