Abstract
1,253,471. Gas turbine engine combustion equipment. SOC. NATIONALE D'ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION. May 6, 1969 [May 7, 1968], No.23041/69. Heading F1L. The invention relates to annular type combustion equipment for example for use in gas turbine engines, the equipment being of the type in which means are provided for causing vaporization of the fuel, the fuel vaporizer being utilized as an impact surface against which jets of secondary air are caused to impinge. The equipment shown comprises outer and inner air casing walls 1a, 1b which define an annular space within which is disposed an annular flame tube defined by walls 2a, 2b and an annular end-cap 3, there being a series of air inlet openings 5 through the end-cap. A series of fuel vaporizing devices 12 are supported within the flame tube by means of support members 18 each vaporized being aligned with an air inlet opening 5. Each vaporizer terminates in a pair of branches 15, 16 which are directed upstream and through which vaporized fuel and air mixture discharges as indicated by the arrows. Liquid fuel is supplied to each vaporizer through a duct 17. Secondary air is directed into the flame tube through openings 11a, 11b in the outer and inner walls 2a, 2b each pair of openings 11a, 11b being oppositely directed and aligned with an outlet duct 15 or 16 of the fuel vaporizer 12 so that the jets of air are dispersed, some flowing upstream to create eddying flow at the upstream region of the flame tube, the remainder flowing downstream. Further cooling and dilution air enters the flame tube through openings 9a, 10a, 9b, 10b in the outer and inner walls 2a, 2b. Cooling air also flows through narrow openings 21, 22 adjacent the fuel vaporizer 12 and support member 18 respectively.
