Abstract
1,263,584. Coated polyvinyl butyral sheet. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 30 Sept., 1969 [9 Oct., 1968], No. 48119/69. Heading B2E. [Also in Division B5] Tinted sheet of plasticised polyvinyl butyral useful as an interlayer in laminated safety glass is produced by depositing substantially coextensively on both sides of the sheet a myriod of discrete dots of liquid coloured material. under conditions such that the discrete dots dry without agglomerating. The sheets may be tinted in a band and preferably the tinting decreases over the width of the band. The coloured material, e.g. ink may be applied by rotogravure-, relief-, offset printing. The surface of the sheet may be roughened prior to printing, e.g. by embossing, chemical treatment, extrusion embossing, extrusion through serrated dies. The ink may comprise an organic solvent solution of dye, e.g. azo or anthraquinone dyes and polyvinyl butyral. Some or all of the dots may diffuse into one another after drying.
