Abstract
1,266,219. Transferring glassware between endless conveyers. EMHART CORP. 27 Nov., 1969 [24 Feb., 1969], No. 58024/69. Heading B8A. In apparatus for transferring articles A from a first conveyer 10 on to a second conveyer 12 oriented at a substantial angle with respect to the first conveyer, and comprising an endless carrier chain 56 having spaced outwardly projecting article pusher elements 58, drive means to one of the sprockets of the chain 56 includes an overload release device, and means are provided for adjusting the angular position of the sprocket. A drive shaft 36 is connected to the drive sprocket 34 by a worm gear mechanism 50, and a spring loaded detent 40 (Fig. 2). The latter enables the drive to slip if the chain 56 becomes jammed. The mechanism 50 has a manual handle 48 which enables the chain 58 to be altered in relation to the spacing of the incoming articles A, without stopping the drive shaft 36. Larger articles may be handled (Fig. 8, not shown) by replacing some of the pushers 58 by plain abutment plates (Fig. 7, not shown). The chain 56 is tensioned by a spring-loaded member 66. A guide bar 64 urges articles outwardly beyond the extremities of the pusher elements 58 as they reach the desired point on the second conveyer.
