Abstract
1277797 Super-conductors COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON HOUSTON-HOTCHKISS BRANDT 11 Sept 1969 [12 Sept 1968] 44987/69 Headings H1A A5 and A4D A flat stabilized super-conductor composite is produced by wrapping a sheet of stabilizing material about at least one layer of stabilized super-conductor wires and hot-rolling. As shown, Fig. 1, a strip 4 of stabilizing material is wrapped round an assembly of stabilized superconductor wires 5 and, if desired, reinforcing wires 6 and hot-rolled to form a composite strip Fig. 2 (not shown) which may subsequently be drawn or rolled. The stabilizing material may be Cu or Al, the super-conductor material may be NbTi or Nb 2 Sn and the conductors may comprise monofilaments or be stranded. The reinforcing wires may be of stainless steel or of a strong Cu alloy. A hollow composite conductor, Fig. 3 (not shown), may be formed by bending a rolled conductor strip into a tube and welding the edges together.
