Abstract

1304794 Adjustable air supply to gas burner AEROMATIC CO Ltd 26 Nov 1971 [22 Jan 1971] 2931/71 Heading F4T In a gas burner having at least one gas port 3 for emitting a stream of gas and at least one air port 9 for emitting a stream of air, means are provided to change the relative positions of the gas and air ports thereby changing the position of at least the stream(s) of air or the stream(s) of gas between a first condition, Fig. 3, in which the air stream(s) and gas stream(s) impinge substantially directly one on another and a second condition, Fig. 2, in which the air stream(s) and gas stream(s) do not impinge directly on but pass adjacent to one another. As shown, the gas ports 3 in a central burner head 2 emit a diverging cone of streams of gas within a diverging frusto-conical diffuser plate 4 containing perforations for diffusion of air and, for each gas port 3, a radial row of air ports 9. The diffuser plate 4 may be rotated relative to the burner head 2 by movement of a supply pipe 10 of a pilot burner 7. The air ports 9 emit converging air streams which, in the first condition, deflect the gas streams towards the axis of the burner head 2. Alternatively, the invention may be applied to a flat-flame burner comprising at least one row of gas ports and at least one generally parallel row of air ports. For example, the gas streams may be directed outwardly from a common median plane with a row of air ports on each side of this plane.
