1313101 Polycyanamides IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 20 July 1970 [21 April 1969 14 April 1970] 20273/69 and 17686/70 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises compounds of the formula where Ar is an aromatic grouping of valency m+2, R is H, halogen, hydrocarbon, alkoxy, alkoxycarbonyl, dialkylamino, dialkylamido, dialkylsulphonamido or -ANHCN, A is a direct covalent link or a divalent organic bridging group and m is a positive integer, provided that when A is in both instances a direct link or methylene or ethylene, then R m Ar is not an unsubstituted single benzene nucleus. The compound may be prepared by reacting the appropriate amine with a cyanogen halide or by dehydrosulphurization of the appropriate thiourea.
