Abstract

1329966 Security card BURROUGHS CORP 27 Aug 1970 [9 Sept 1969] 15397/73 Divided out of 1329964 Heading B6A [Also in Division G4] A security card, described as used to free a banknote dispensing apparatus, includes two different data representations of a number associated with the card, at least one of the representations being contained in a quantity of magnetic material. An arrow 35 (Fig. 6) contains a random application of a quantity of magnetic material; only discrete magnetic spots positioned in a plurality of preselected rows or tracks are relevant. These are spots counted before the security card 19 is issued, and the number subjected to a mathematical transformation to arrive at limit values. These values, and the transformation, are coded in magnetic strips 33, 34. Strips 33, 34 also carry in scrambled form a check word, identification numbers, date of last use of card, and number of times of use. Magnetic strips 31, 32 carry in scrambled form account numbers and check characters. The reverse face of the card (Fig. 5) carries an embossed control number 20, printing concerning issuing bank, and twenty labelled boxes which are punched or dimpled successively to indicate the number of card uses. A printed voucher is also described (see Fig. 10, not reproduced). The banknote dispensing apparatus is claimed in Specifications 1,329,964 and 1,329,965.
