Abstract

1344682 DL-Tryptophan VYZKUMNY USTAV ORGANICKYCH SYNTEZ 9 Sept 1971 [25 Sept 1970] 42092/71 Heading C2C DL-Tryptophan is produced in pure form by reacting a DL-acyltryptophan or crude DL- tryptophan with a 30-60% w/w alkali metal hydroxide solution at 110-140‹ C. to produce a solid alkali metal tryptophanate, dissolving this in a solvent, e.g. water, and treating the resulting solution with an acid. The acyltryptophan may be obtained, by reacting acrolein with a dialkyl acylamidomalonate in the presence of a basic catalyst, and cyclizing the product by reaction with phenylhydrazine.
