1355801 Substituted sulphenyl halides IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 May 1971 [12 Aug 1970] 38873/70 Heading C2C The invention comprises sulphenyl halides of carboxylic amides and imides of formula in which R 1 and R 2 which may be the same or different represent alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl groups, or R 1 and R 2 together represent an alkylene, cycloalkylene or arylene radical, any of which may carry one or more non-reactive substituents (i.e. substituents which are not affected by the halogenating conditions under which the amido or imido sulphenyl halides are formed, e.g. Cl, Br, -NO 2 , -OAlk, acyl and alkoxycarbonyl groups), or R 1 may represent a hydrogen atom, X represents a carbonyl group or a direct link from R 2 to N, and Y represents Cl or Br. These compounds may be obtained by reacting a disulphide derived from the corresponding amide or imide with a chlorinating or brominating agent. The Example describes the preparation of caprolactam sulphenyl chloride. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,311,634.
