Abstract

1368321 Feeding sheets SCHNELLPRESSENFABRIK KOENIG & BAVER AG 8 Dec 1971 [18 Dec 1970] 57085/71 Heading B8R A sheet feeding device in a printing press comprises a rotary gripper assembly 2 drivably connected to a five part Geneva wheel 8 having five slots 8.1, engageable by three rollers 7 on a drive plate 6 rotatable at 1/3 the speed of the press. Sheets may be registered against rising front stops and side stops on a feed table 1 and then fed by retractible mechanical, or suction grippers 3 on an intermittently rotatable cylinder 2 to a constantly rotating transfer cylinder 4 and printing cylinder 5. The transfer cylinder 4 is geared at 3 : 1 to the drive plate 6, a roller 7 of which engages a slot of the Geneva wheel 8 after a 12 degrees rotation of the plate, this lapse being due to the curved tapering of the peripheral edges 8.2 of the slots and resulting in a lapse time at the gripper cylinder 2 sufficient to actuate the grippers 3. The gear ratio between the Geneva wheel and gripper cylinder may be 1 : 5, 1 : 2À5 or 3 : 5 depending on whether there are one, two or three grippers on the cylinder 2.
