Abstract

1369673 Jacks; converting linear to rotary motion DOWTY MINING EQUIPMENT Ltd 7 Feb 1972 [8 Feb 1971] 4160/71 Heading F1D A fluid operated jack comprises a cylinder 11 in which reciprocates a piston 18 carried by a hollow rod 21 which extends out of the cylinder 11 and is integral with a housing 22, a tube 25 being rotatably mounted in the housing and rod at 26, 29 such that the tube is rotated when the piston 18 reciprocates. The tube rotates a rotary transducer 39 in housing 22 through a transmission shaft 42. A port 34 in housing 22 communicates through a chamber 30 in which transducer 39 is mounted, the bore of tube 25, and ports 32 in tube 25 with working chamber 33 and port 38 communicates with working chamber 37 via the clearance between rod 21 and tube 25 and ports 36 in rod 21. Thus selective pressurization of the working chambers causes the cylinder 11 and housing 22 to move relatively to each other, the tube 25 being rotated by threaded engagement with screw 23 fixed axially within cylinder 11.
