Abstract
1392744 Supporting conductors C GEE ALSTHOM 7 July 1972 [12 July 1971] 32032/72 Heading H2C A securing device 7 for a hollow electric conductor 8 in a coaxial sheath 1 is provided with a base 2, insulator 3 secured thereto by bolt 4 and is tapped in its upper portion at 5 to receive support rod 15, which passes through an aperture 9 in the conductor 8. The dimensions of substantially rectangular aperture 9 are slightly larger than that of shoe 11, which rests on dish 12, spring 13, and is retained by screw 14 which allows some movement of shoe 11 within dish 12 under the action of spring 13. The insulator assembly 7 is secured to the conductor 8 by firstly inserting upper shoe 18 so that its longitudinal axis is parallel to the longitudinal axis of aperture 9, and the lower shoe 11 is clamped against the outer surface of conductor 8, its axis at 90 degrees to that of shoe 18. Its dimensions being smaller, shoe 18 may be passed through aperture 9 and its removal prevented by rotation through 90 degrees, while lower shoe 11 is held stationary, against conductor surface 8, the cylindrical axis of which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the shoe 11. A pull is exerted so that the upper shoe descends, and its heel 19 engages in aperture 9, locking upper shoe 18 in position while the insulator is rotated a further 90 degrees, in a direction such that the screw fit of rod 15 in socket 5 tends to be tightened. Stud 21 in rod 5 is thereby aligned with a groove (20) in the heel 19 (see Fig. 2, not shown), and, under the action of spring 17, engages therein, preventing further rotation of upper shoe 18 or the insulator. Removal is substantially similar after unscrewing the insulator 3 from rod 5. In a further embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown), rod (15) extends diametrically completely across conductor 8 and passes through a further aperture opposite the first aperture. The upper shoe is disposed on the external surface of the conductor and the lower shoe's position is unchanged except for a heel (24) extending into the aperture (9).
