Abstract

1401331 Cyclone classifiers KLOCKNERHUMBOLDT-DEUTZ AG 25 Sept 1972 [23 Sept 1971] 44250/72 Heading B2P An apparatus for size-grading of granular material with the help of a fluid medium, e.g. gas, comprises at least two cyclone separators 1, 2 arranged coaxilly one inside the other, the outer separator 1 having at least one inlet port 4 for the fluid medium and the entrained granular material to be graded, the port 4 being axially spaced by a distance 15 from inlet passages 8 of the inner separator 2 each separator having an outlet 6 (11) for separated particles and the inner separator 2 having a central discharge tube 13 for the fluid medium. and a baffle 19 being provided inside the separator 1 radially spaced from the passages 8 and acting as a pre-separator with respect to the separator 2. A tangential inlet duct 5 is connected to the port 4 which communicates with an annular separating space of downwardly-increasing cross-section formed between an upper conical portion of the outer separator 1 and a lower conical portion of a flow guide body 18 which has a cylindrical upper portion 17 extending outside the separator 1. The baffle 19 is arranged at the lower end of the guide body 18 and is axially adjustable together with the guide body by means of a control device 21. Alternatively the baffle and the guide body are separate members which are independently axially adjustable. Guide vanes 9 angularly adjustable by a device 10 are located in the passages 8 and direct material laden fluid tangentially into the separator 2. In operation, the granular material-fluid mixture is fed through the inlet duct 5 and flows helically within the upper part of the separator 1 so that coarse particles separate out against the wall of the separator 1 and fall down through the outlet 6. Below the baffle 9 the fluid is deflected sharply upwards whereby further coarse particles are separated out, the fluid with the fine particles then flowing through the passages 8 and the vanes 9 so that a helical flow is established within the separator 2 whereby the fine particles are separated out and fall through the outlet 11 and the substantially clean fluid is removed through a vortex finder 13 which may be axially adjustable by a device 14.
