Abstract

1411369 Jet mills; nozzles E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 31 July 1974 [31 July 1973] 33842/74 Headings B2A and B2F [Also in Division F4] A fluid energy mill includes a feed jet arrangement A either alone or in addition to the usual jets 4 Fig 1. The arrangement A permits the mill to grind and dry a slurry e.g. of untile TiO 2 The slurry feed device A comprises a feed inlet 30 Fig 3 for slurry terminating in a nozzle 36 which is surrounded by a conveying annular passageway 37 supplied with high velocity drying gas (e.g. steam at 800‹F 450 psig) coolant e.g. chilled water is fed via an inlet 45 to a passageway 39 and discharged at 46, to cool the nozzle 36. The dried atomised slurry is delivered via a passageway 10 comprised of two annular wall portions 21, 22 to the jet mill chamber which is fitted with the usual centrifugal separator enclosure 9 Fig 1. As shown plate 34 may be replaced to vary the size of passageway 37.
