Abstract

1438721 Releasable touch-and-close fabric fastener KANEBO Ltd 31 Aug 1973 [12 Sept 1972] 41143/73 Heading E2S A releasable touch-and-close fabric type fastener comprising a male piece 1 composed of a (base fabric 3 and a plurality of substantially upright, engaging elements 4 projecting from the surface of said base fabric, and a female piece 2 composed of a base fabric 6 and a plurality of substantially upright loop elements 7 projecting from the face surface of said base fabric, the base fabric of each piece, the engaging elements and loop elements being made of synthetic material, is characterised in that layers 5, 8 of adhesive synthetic resin cover the respective back surfaces of said base fabrics of said male and female pieces 1, 2 the adhesive resin layers 5, 8 have a softening point which is between 40‹C and 60‹C less than that of any synthetic material from which said engaging elements, said base fabrics of said male and female pieces, and said loop elements are formed. As shown, each engaging element 4 has a laterally expanded head 4a, the base fabrics 3, 6 and the loop elements 7 being made e.g. of a polyamide fibre, or filament, and the engaging elements 4 of polyamide, or polypropylene, monofilament. The male 1 and female 2 pieces are secured to textile goods by placing the layers 5, 8 in direct contact therewith and then pressing the pieces 1, 2 at a temperature sufficiently high to melt the layers 5, 8. The adhesive synthetic resin, may be a resin of a compolymer of poly-wleuro lactum, a copolymer of poly-w-leurolactum, or a mixture of poly-w-leurolactum and a copolymer of poly-w-leurolactum and the layers 5, 8 preferably have a thickness of between 40 and 150 microns. The layers 5, 8 may be formed by coating or by an extrusion of resin. In an example described the base fabric 3 and the engaging elements 4 of the male piece 1 are produced respectively from 6 Nylon multifilament and polypropylene monofilament, the elements 4 being heated at their ends to provide the heads 4a. The material for the female piece is produced from 6 Nylon multi-filament the loops 7 being produced by napping the surface of the fabric. Coatings of adhesive synthetic resin composed of a mixture of Nylon 12 and a copolymer of Nylon to a thickness of 70 microns are applied to the male and female pieces 36 the latter then being heat-sealed to respective pieces of cotton cloth. The male and female pieces, after being forced into engagement, are tested for stability and washability for different percentage mixtures for the coatings of adhesive synthetic resin, and tabulated results are given.
