Abstract

Exhaust-silencers.-A silencer comprises an expansion chamber a conical at one end b and surrounded by an unobstructed annular cooling-chamber c having an axial inlet f. The gases pass from the chamber c to the chamber a by an annular passage k and escape by a central outlet m. In the form shown, the chamber e is reduced at the inlet end f and the cooling-chamber is provided with integral or attached cooling-ribs n. In a modification, the cooling-ribs are formed by longitudinal corrugations.
