Abstract

1455924 Wooden spiral staircases J GELEIJNSE and M GELEIJNSE [trading as M GELEIJNSE & ZOON] 24 July 1974 [26 July 1973] 32702/74 Heading E1B A wooden spiral staircase with a newel post 2 avoids direct connection of the treads 3 with the post 2 by supporting the treads on a T-shaped riser 4 fixed symetrically in the cross section of the column by a glued tenon 10 in a mortice in the column. The tenon is formed at one end of the top flange of the T-shaped riser, the top edge of which flange is let into the underside of the tread parallel with the front edge of the tread and extending about two thirds the length of the tread from the newel post. The stem of the riser is let into the tread below close to the rear edge thereof and extending from between one sixth to one third the length of the tread. Each tread is additionally connected to the tread above and below it at its outer edge, remote from the newel post. The treads and risers may be formed of plywood.
