Abstract
1460187 Catalytic steam reforming SBA CHIMIE SA 18 July 1974 [31 Aug 1973 8 Nov 1973] 31927/74 Heading C5E In a catalytic steam reforming process an indirectly heated mixture of gaseous hydrocarbons and an excess of steam is contacted in an indirectly heated reaction zone with a reforming catalyst, and a proportion of the reducing gas produced is recycled in an amount at least equal to the volume of gaseous hydrocarbon supplied to the reaction zone, the recycled gas being mixed with the mixture of steam and hydrocarbon before it enters the reaction zone and without any intermediate treatment (such as heating, cooling, purification); the product gas has a temperature of 850-1000 C. and has a ratio (H 2 +CO)/(H 2 +CO+CO 2 +H 2 O) of at least 0À9. In the drawing, natural gas from 24 is mixed with steam from boiler 27 and fed via line 31 to Venturi nozzle 32 and thence through externally heated catalyst filled tubes 21. Part of the product gases in line 33 are fed via branch 34 to the Venturi nozzle 32 where they are entrained in the hydrocarbon/steam mixture and fed to the catalyst tubes 21. Burners 19 serve to heat the catalyst tubes and also to preheat the steam and hydrocarbon lines in duct 22.
