Abstract

1460812 Rotary disc filter SOC ANON DES ETABS NEU 18 March 1974 [19 March 1973] 11936/74 Heading BIT [Also in Division D1] An apparatus for separating fibrous material from an air stream comprises a rotary perforate disc 2 against which the fibre laden airstream is projected, the air passing through and the fibres being retained by the disc and ejected centrifugally into the top of a chamber 1 containing the said disc. Suction being applied by a conduit 5 behind the disc e.g. by a remote fan or a fan coaxial with the disc, and an aerodynamic seal being formed between an annular imperforate portion of the disc periphery the outer surface of the suction conduit and the inner surface of the chamber. The fibre and air entry duct 8 is mounted in a rotary disc 19 which can be set to place the entry duct 8 where desired relative to the perporate disc 2 and hence affect the fibre distribution across the width of the chamber 1. A plurality of feed ducts 8 may be associated with the perforate disc 2 and also a plurality of perforate discs may be employed in the chamber 1. A fan can be mounted on the shaft of disc 2 and drive provided by belts from an externally mounted motor Fig. 2, (not shown), or a fan may be mounted on the opposite end of motor 3 from the disc 2 Fig. 3 (not shown).
