Abstract

149,926. Soc. Anon. de Turbo-Machines. Aug. 20, 1919, [Convention date]. Motor power plant; working-fluid supply. - A turbine T<m> has one section of its blades supplied with combustion gases and another section with steam generated in a boiler C, which is fed by water from jackets surrounding the combustion chamber C<c> and the turbine casing and is heated by the exhaust gases from the turbine. The exhaust gases are led first to the furnace of the boiler C and superheater S by pipes b, B', and then to a gas turbine Tg driving a fan Ac for the condenser Ce, which may be connected both to the gas turbine T<g> and to a low-pressure steam turbine Tv receiving the steam discharged from the main turbine Tm. A compressor Ca on the same shaft as the turbine Tm, Tv forces air into the combustion chamber Cc. Auxiliary burners B are provided for the boiler furnace. All the turbines may be mounted on the same shaft. In a modification, wherein the mixed turbine works below atmospheric pressure, the low-pressure steam turbine is dispensed with and the compressor Ca replaced bv a suction fan which draws the gases from the mixed turbine Tm and forces them into the boiler furnace, the feed-water for the boiler being circulated round the casings of the turbine Tm, the combustion chamber, and the fan. The combustion gases may be generated in the cylinders of a reciprocating engine of the type wherein steam operates on one side of the piston, and gases on the other side, the compressor delivering air to the piston and the exhaust fluids being led to a mixed turbine or to separate turbines.
