Abstract
1505101 Preparing photoreceptors XEROX CORP 13 May 1975 [19 Aug 1974] 20049/75 Heading C7F [Also in Division G2] A photo receptor is prepared by applying to a charge transport matrix layer on an electrically conductive base a photo-conductor by evaporation in vacuo, the stream of vapourized photo-conductor comprising both un-ionized material and particles ionized by a glow-discharge. Said base may be Cu, Al, steel, brass, Zn, Hi, metal on paper or plastics, Al or Cu iodide on polyethylene terephthalate or Cu or Sn oxide on glass; said matrix may be a 10-50Á layer of polyester, polysiloxane, polyamide, polyurethane, epoxy, polyvinyl carbazol, polyvinyl pyrene or a phenyl substituted polycyclic compound; the photo-conductor may be Se, optionally alloyed with Te, Ge, As, Sb, Bi and/or Cl, Br, or I. The source crucible is heated by resistance, electron-or ion-beam; the glow discharge is established by two electrodes spaced either side of the substrate-source gap, in a suitable gas, e.g. Ar or N 2 , using either 3500-5000V D.C. at 0À05- 0À5 ma/cm<SP>2</SP> or A.C. of 60-400 c/s, 500-1400V and 0À01-0À15 ma/cm<SP>2</SP>. Where D.C. is used, charge build-up on the substrate is minimized by placing an earthed screen in front of it, e.g. a mesh of Al or stainless steel.
