Abstract

204,502. Riley, W. Oct. 9, 1922. Valves. - A rotary sleeve valve 1 for a four-stroke engine is provided with separate ports controlling inlet and exhaust ports 12<A>, 13<A> in the cylinder. The inlet port commences to open when the crank is about 30‹ in front of the top deadcentre, but is then covered by the piston, and remains so covered until the crank is about 30‹ past the top deadcentre, becoming fully open and fully uncovered by the piston when the crank is about 60‹ past the top deadcentre. The sleeve is supported on ball bearings 9, 10. The ports 12<A>, 13<A> are preferably at the same side of the cylinder.
