Abstract
A box made of cardboard, corrugated board, or other sheetlike material comprises a caselike body (40) and a cover (41). The body (40) has a front opening (42) and the cover (41) is bendable over a hinge line for opening and closing the box (10). Before the box (10) is opened for the first time the cover (41) is locked to the body (40) by means of portions (29, 30) cut to define the opening (42) which are attached to the cover (41) and body (40) respectively and initially united along a perforated tear line. These portions (29, 30) engage to hold the box closed on subsequent closing. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
A box with an opening for emptying
This invention relates to a box made of cardboard, corrugated board, or other sheetlike material, which box comprises a caselike body and a cover, the said caselike body being provided with an opening for emptying and the said cover being bendable over a hinge line for opening and closing the box, and which box is designed so that before the box is opened for the first time the cover of the box is locked to the body by means of a tearoff locking.
French Patent 89792 and US patent 3 1 91 848 are cited as prior art. The box according to French patent 89792 is opened by tearing off a tear strip whereby a reclosable box is obtained which has an opening for emptying and which can be closed again. A major disadvantage with this known box is that it cannot be reclosed reliably because it has no reclosable lock. Neither can the box be filled with a machine from the side; it must be filled from the ends of the box.
A box according to US patent 3191848 is opened along a perforation line. It can be machine-filled also from the sides. This known box is additionally provided with a reclosable lock and can be closed again reliably. A disadvantage of this known box is that it has no opening for emptying. This box is also relatively complicated to manufacture.
The object of the invention is to effect an improvement in the known boxes. In more detail, one object of the invention is to accomplish a box which has an opening for emptying and which can also be closed again reliably. Another object of the invention is to accomplish a box which has an opening for emptying and in which the reclosability is realized in the simplest possible way. A further object of the invention is to accomplish a box which has an opening for emptying and which is simple to manufacture and consumes material as little as possible.
The objects of the invention are fulfilled by a box the main characteristic of which is a reclosable lock that is obtained by making use of a flaplike part which is cut in the front panel of the box to form an opening for errîptying. Other characteristics of the box according to the invention are explained in claims 2-5.
A box according to the invention offers rernarkabie advantages. A box with an opening for emptying in accordance with the in Invention has a reliable reclosable lock and it has been realized that this lock can be formed by taking advantage of the material for the opening for emptying. The manufacturing method of the box according to the invention is relatively simple and its material consumption is economical. A box according to the invention can also be machine-filled from the sides.
The invention will be described in more detail with reference to, but not limiting the invention to, some fipreferable embodiments which are shown in the attached drawings.
Figure 7 shows a preferable blank for a box according to the invention Figure 2 shows an opened box which is set up of a blank according to Fig. 1.
Figure 3 shows another preferable blank for a box according to the invention.
Figure 4 shows an opened box which is set up of a blank according to Fig. 3.
In Fig. 1 number 10 refers in general to a blank made of cardboard or corrugated board.
When the blank 10 is erected a box 2 according to Fig. 1 is obtained whereby parts 11 and 12 of the blank 10 form the front and back panels of the bo, and parts 1 3-1 6 form the side panels. Fart 23 of the blank 10 forms the bottom of the box. Number 40 in Fig. 2 refers to the caselike body of the box 10 which body is made of parts 1 1-16 of the blank 1 0 n the kno3n way.In this embodi anent parts 24 and 25 of time blank 10 are bent so that said parts 24 end 25 are between parts 13 and 15 and parts 14 and 16 respectively, which pa,-ss form the side panels of the box.
Parts 17-22 of whe blank 10 form the cover of the box 10 which cover is refilled to by reference number 41 in Fig. 2.
In the front side 11 oi the box 10 there is a flaplike part 27 which is formed by means of cuts 26 and a crease line 34. A perforation line 28 divides the flaplaCwe part 27 into an upper trapezoidal part 28 and a lower trapezoidal part 30 respectively. In a finished box part 29 is glued to art 1 8 of the cover part 41, whereby, at the opening of box 110 the perforation line 28 is torn and part 29 remains attached to part 18 of the cover 41 and part 30 is res,oectivel1 attached tei the opening 42 for emptying in the front pans9 11 of the box 1 0. When the box according to
Fig. 2 is recuosedl by bending the cover 41 over the hinge line 33, part 18 of the cover 41 and a thereto glued part 29 are pushing part 30 downwards, whereby part 30 is bent over the crease line 34 between part 30 and front panel 11 and when the box is reclosed the parts 29 and 30 form a reliable lock.
A box 1 0 is set up of a blank according to
Fig. 1 preferably as follows. The part of blank
10 which forms the front panel 11 is first bent 180 over the crease line 31. Then the lflaplike part 27 is bent 1 80' over the crease line 34 betsveen part 27 and the front panel 11, whereafter glue is applied either as a stripe or a dot on the part 29 of the flaplike part 27.Thereafter parts 18 and 1 7 are bent 180 over the crease line 33, whereby part 29 is glued to part 1 8. Ihllow the box 10 can be filled and closed with a machine from the sides and the box is finished by glueing the side panels 13 and 1, and 14 and 16 respectively to ea?h other. When the box 10 is opened the perfsration line 28 is torn and so an opening 42 for emptying and a reclosable lock 29, 30 are obtained.
Another method to make the box is following. The flaplike paI 27 is first bent 180 over the crease line 34. Thereafter glue is applied to part 29 of he flaplike part 27 either as a glue stripe or dot. Then the part which forms the front panel 11 is bent 180 over the crease line 31 Finally parts 1 8 and
1 7 are bent 1 8O' over the crease line 33 whereby part 29 is glued to part 18.
The blank for a box shown in Fig. 3 is referred to in gens,al by number 110. A box according to Fig. 4 is set up of the blank 11 0, whereby the parts 5 1 1 and 112 of the blank 110 form the front and back panels of the box and the parts 1 l 3-116 form the side panels of the box. Part 123 of the blank 110 forms the bottom of the box.
Number 140 in Fig. 4 refers to the caselike body of the box 110 according to the invention which body is formed of parts 111-116 of the blank 110 and number 141 refers to the cover which is set up of parts 11 7-1 22 of the blank 110.
Cuts 1 26 and j crease line 1 34 define a trapezoidal flaplike Fart 127 in the front panel
111 of the blank 110. A perforation line 128 divides the flaplike part 1 27 to an upper trapezoidal part 129 and to a lower trapezoidal part 130 like shown in Fig. 1.In a finished box part 130 of the flaplike part 127 is glued to the front panel 111 of the box 110, just below the opening 142 for emptying; when the box 110 then is opened the perforation line 1 is torn and part 130 of the flaplike par.. 1 27 remains attached to the front panel I 11 immediately below the opening 142 for emptying and part 129 of the flaplike part 1 27 forms a tongue-shaped locking tab in part 117 of the cover 141.In a finished box according to another embodiment of the invention pan 1 29 of the flaplike part 127 is glued to par, 117 of the cover 141; when the box 110 is opened the perforation line 128 is torn and part 129 of the flaplike part 127 remains attached to part 117 of the cover 141. Fig. 4 is reclosed by bending the cover 141 over the hinge line 1 33, a reliable reclosable lock is formed by the tongue-shaped locking tab 129 in part 1-17 oi the cover 141 together with part 130 of the flaplike part 127 which is attached to the front panel 111.
The blank according to Fig. 3 is erected to a finished box 110 preferably as follows. Parts 111,117 and 1 18 are first bent 180 over the crease line oil 31. Then the flaplike part 127 as well as parts 11 7 and 118 are bent about 45 over crease line 134 and glue is applied to parts 130 of the flaplike part 127 either as a glue stripe or a glue dot. Thereafter parts 127, 117 and 118 are further bent about 135 over the crease line 134 so that part 130 is glued to part 111.Part 135 gets an application of glue from below and is bent 180 over the crease line 1 33. Finally parts 11 7 and 118 are bent 180 over crease line 136, whereby part 118 is glued to glue flap 1 35. Thereafter the box 110 can be filled and closed with a machine from the sides and the box is finished by glueing together the side panels 1 1 3 and 115, and 1 1 4 and 116 respectively. When the box 110 is opened, the perforation line 128 is torn and an opening 1 42 for emptying and a reclosable lock
129, 1 30 are obtained.

Claims (6)
1. A box made of cardboard, corrugated board, or other sheetlike material, which box comprises a caselike body and a cover, the body being provided with an opening for emptying and the cover being bendable over a hinge line for opening and closing the box, the box being provided with a reclosable lock which is obtained by utilizing a flaplike part which is cut in the front panel of the box in order to make an opening for emptying in the front panel of the box.
2. A box as claimed in claim 1, in which the said flaplike part is separated by cutting lines and is integrated to the front panel of the box through a substantially horizontal crease line.
3. A box as claimed in claim 2, in which a substantially horizontal perforation line divides the flaplike part into an upper flaplike part and a lower flaplike part.
4. A box as claimed in claim 3, in which the said upper part is glued to the end piece - of the cover; when the box is opened the perforation line is torn and the said upper part stays attached to the end piece of the cover and the said lower part stays attached to the - opening for emptying in the front panel of the box through the said crease line part; and when the box is closed again the said upper part and the said lower part form a reclosable lock.
5. A box as claimed in claim 3, in which the said lower part is glued to the front panel of the box below the opening for emptying, whereby, when the box is opened the perforation is torn and the said lower part stays attached to the front panel immediately below the opening for emptying and the said upper part forms a tonque-shaped locking tab in the front panel of the cover, and whereby when the box is reclosed the said upper part and the said lower part form a reclosable lock.
6. A box substantially as described herein with reference to, and as shown in, Figs. 1 and 2 or Figs. 3 and 4 of the accompanying drawings.
