Abstract
A diaper 10 having Velcro (Trade Mark) fastenings 12 has a length of absorbent material 14 attached at a line 16 towards the lower zone of the crotch. The absorbent material may be folded two or more times to constitute a pad for the diaper. An advantage of the invention is that drying the diaper after washing is enhanced. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Diaper
This invention relates to diapers.
Prior art
The prior art is replete with examples of diapers which all tend to try to solve the difficulties involved in locating them in position and also in absorbing the maximum amount of exudates.
Much research has been carried out on diapers which are fitted by means of VELCRO (registered trade mark) fastenings so as to avoid the necessity of using safety pins and the like and it is this type of diaper which is mainly involved in the present invention. It will be appreciated, however that other types of diapers are also envisaged within the scope of the invention.
Much research has also been directed to providing the maximum degree of absorbability without sacrificing comfort and there are diapers with substantial thickness of absorbent material in the appropriate location. However, such thicknesses of absorbent material generally result in an extended drying period and this can be very inconvenient particularly in humid climates.
Object of the invention
It is an object of the invention to provide a diaper with adequate absorbability without suffering from the problems of extended drying requirements.
Definitions of the invention
According to one aspect of the invention a diaper includes a length of absorbent material affixed to the diaper and adapted to be folded to form a dense absorbent zone in the desired location.
In a preferred form of the invention the length of absorbent material is sewn to the lower part of the crotch zone of the diaper so that when it is folded, the several folded layers constitute an excellent pad for exudates.
A plastic moisture barrier may be provided to prevent moisture from coming into contact with the skin.
The edges of the diaper may be elasticised not only for comfort but also to act to contain the exudate. Quick release means in the form of strips of
VELCRO tape may be included in the diaper to facilitate fastening.
According to another aspect of the invention a diaper includes a length of absorbent material having a waist encircling region and an elongated portion extending from the waist encircling region, the elongated portion being adapted to be folded to form a dense absorbent zone in a dense absorbent zone in a desired location.
Embodiment of the invention
An embodiment of the invention is described hereunder with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a plan view of a diaper according to the invention.
In the drawing a diaper 10 having VELCRO fastenings 12 (although other suitable fastenings could be used including press-studs) has a length 14 of absorbent material (preferably the same material as the diaper) attached at a line 16 towards the lower zone of the crotch. The length 14 of absorbent material may be folded twice or more times to form a multi layer pad for exudate.
It will be appreciated that after washing the length 14 of material will hang from the clothes line and will dry at the same rate as the remainder of the diaper.
The edges 18 of the diaper are elasticised.
A moisture barrier may be provided in the crotch zone, but is not shown on the drawing for simplicity's sake.
The diaper may as mentioned earlier, be formed from a single length of material with the elongated portion arising from the waist encircling region.
Claims (6)
1. A diaper including a length of absorbent material affixed to the diaper and adapted to be folded to form a dense absorbent zone in the desired location.
2. A diaper according to claim 1 in which the absorbent material is a length of fabric affixed to the diaper and the material having a width substantially the same as the width of the crotch zone of the diaper.
3. A diaper according to claim 1 in which the absorbent material is affixed to the lower part of the crotch zone of the diaper for folding the material during use to constitute a pad for exudates.
4. A diaper according to claim 1 including a moisture barrier in the form of a polymeric material on at least a part of a surface of the diaper, the material being adapted to prevent moisture from contacting the skin of the user.
5. A diaper according to claim 1 in which the absorbent material is a length of fabric affixed to the diaper, the material having a width substantially the same as the width of the crotch zone of the diaper and the diaper including quick release means and elasticised edges for fastening on a user's body.
6. A diaper including a length of absorbent material having a waist encircling region and an elongated portion extending from the waist encircling region, the elongated portion being adapted to be folded to form a dense absorbent zone in a desired location.
