Waffle and like baking-apparatus.- Electrically heated plates, for baking altar bread, are provided with means whereby the distance between the closed plates is varied, wafers of various thicknesses being thus produced. Lugs 7, formed integrally with the bottom plate 8, are secured to the base plate 6 and bearing blocks 9 are secured to the lugs 7 by screws 14, and adjusted vertically by the screws 15. The upper plate 11 is journaled in the blocks 9 and thin packing pieces are inserted between the outer ends of the plates 8, 11 to ensure parallelism of the plates, a certain amount of play being allowed in the notch in the lever 25, which engages the detent 26. The plates 8, 11 are recessed to receive the heating-elements which are enclosed by cover plates. A switch 22 is mounted on the base plate 6 and a porcelain bushing on the cover plate 18.
