Abstract

220,103. Newark, W. G. June 7, 1923. Rackets.-A metal tennis racket comprises a frame of circular hollow section which is compressed near the throat to an ellipse with its major axis in the plane of the racket, the two ends being fixed together by a transverse metal plate a. The longitudinal steel wires f pass through a metal bridge piece b to the throat and are returned to the upper side of the bridge piece, where loops engage in the threads of tapered screws c lying in grooves d. Some of the wires f<1> pass round screws c<1> on the lower side of the bridge piece. By turning the screws the tension of the strings is adjusted. Round-headed studs e are provided for the wire loops on the outside of the frame.
