Abstract

226,707. Pfisterer, K. Feb. 20, 1924. Purifying liquids.- In apparatus for bring- ing into contact with each other two fluids, or solid matter in suspension, or mixtures thereof, having different physical properties, the fluids are supplied continuously and separately to a relatively small container from which they are circulated through the apparatus, and separate circuits are provided for each fluid the paths of the circuits coinciding at certain points where the materials are intimately mixed. The products of the reaction are afterwards recirculated, and small quantities are continuously removed wholly from the apparatus. A liquid, for example benzole washing oil, is forced by a pump a through a pipe a<1> into an annular jet nozzle c where it is intimately mingled with a gas for example hydrogen supplied from a pipe f. The mixed liquid and gas pass through perforated baffle plates h into a container i from which they are recirculated, the liquid being drawn off through a pipe n while the gas ascends through a pipe l. Fresh liquid is supplied through a pipe b, and small quantities of liquid and gas are continuously removed by pipes o, m respectively. A modification is described in which the mixing nozzle is surrounded with a basin which receives the overflowing liquid. Specification 150,802 is referred to.
