Abstract
A nappy system for a baby comprising a washable, waterproof and breathable cover 10 and a releasably attached inner absorbent pad. The inner absorbent pad may be either a cotton fabric absorbent pad or a bio-degradable, disposable absorbent pad. The nappy may be size-adjustable and include elasticated waterproof barriers fitted around the leg of the baby. The inner absorbent pad may be tailored to provide a space in which an additional absorbent pad can be inserted.
Description
BABIES DUAL PURPOSE WASIMBLE NAPPY SYSTEM
This invention relates to a babies dual purpose washable/semi disposable nappy system.
Babies nappies comprise of a form which covers the babies lower body to contain waste products for disposal of after a period of time when the nappy is no longer achieving its initial function due to over saturation. The two types of nappy are a fully disposable type or a washable reusable type.
Disposable types are however expensive to use and are very harmful to the environment as the bio-degrading time in a landfill site is approximately one hundred years.
According to the present invention there is provided a nondisposable, washable, waterproof, breathable, tailored, fully adjustable nappy, comprising of a two part system which fastens together to provide use as a one part system. The first part is an outer cover which is washable, waterproof, breathable, tailored and fully adjustable. The second part comprises of either a 100 per cent cotton, washable, adjustable, tailored inner absorbent pad, with the facility to accept an additional absorbant insertion pad for heavy use, releasably attached to the outer cover; or a bio-degradable, disposable inner absorbant pad, releasably attached to the outer cover. The whole nappy system uses simple fastenings to hold it in place on the baby and due to its tailored shape alleviates the need to fold into the babies body as with traditional towelling types. It does not require a separate outer waterproof cover being placed over the fixed nappy.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows the whole nappy system assembled ready to use;
Figure 2 shows the outer waterproof cover;
Figure 3 shows the inner 100 per cent cotton absorbent pad;
Figure 4 shows the additional absorbent insertion pad;
Figure 5 shows the bio-degradable disposable inner absorbant pad.
Referring to the drawing the nappy system comprises of an outer washable waterproof breathable tailored fully adjustable cover 10 which has attached releasably to it either a highly absorbent one hundred per-cent cotton shaped and length adjustable inner pad 11, with an additional extra absorbent insertion cotton pad in figure 4 for heavy use if required, or a bio-degradable disposable inner absorbent pad as in figure 5.
In order to releasably attach the outer cover 10 to the inner pad 11, or the disposable pad figure 5, fixings are provided at points 12 and 13. These fixings can then both be released in order to separate the pad from the cover for separate laundry temperature purposes, or from the disposable pad for disposal of, Figure 4 shows the additional insertion pad to place in the fold of the inner absorbent pad, figure 3, and held in place inside seams 21 when required.
In order to adjust the cover to size for multi-sizes of different babies at different ages the fixings at 14 15 and 16 are utilized in conjunction with the positioning of the fixings at 17 and 18 by moving all fixings up or down according to the size of the baby making it necessary only to purchase one nappy system throughout the whole growing stage of the baby whilst using nappies.
In order not to utilize an extra waterproof plastic type outer cover over an absorbent nappy the outer cover 10 boo 9 breathable or air permeable membrane 18 permanently aehed to the outer aesthetic fabric 19 which allows an attractive fabric feel and look to the outer cover which is waterproof to hold in any liquids and solids but air-permeable to allow the babies skin to breathe naturally and not become overheated.
In order to prevent any leaking of liquids from around the babies leg there are installed on the outer cover 10 elasticated barriers 20 which adjust to the contour of the babies leg and are attached to the waterproof membrane 18 for a complete seal within that area.
In order to make the inner pad 11 not too bulky for the purpose of washing and time consuming when drying these pads are shaped and tailored to fold in at seams 21 for use within the outer cover and open out at seams 21 to wash and dry.
