Abstract
A gas detector has a casing 3 held on the wrist by a band 2. The casing has a cylindrical bore holding at least one sensor 8,9 in position, a display panel 4, power switch 5 and function selection switches 6,7 on it's surface.
Description
2331363 Portable Gas Detector This invention relates to a portable gas
detector carried on the clothing for the measurement gas concentration in environments, and more particularly to the structure of the casing thereof.
When work is done in environments where poisonous gas can be produced or oxygen deficiency can occur, it is necessary to measure the concentration of such gas or oxygen regularly. Various types of portable gas detectors to answer this need, comprising a gas sensor, display, and signal processor contained in a small case that can be placed in a pocket or fixed thereon by means of a clip, have been proposed.
These conventional detectors, however, have caused interruption of work because they must be taken out of the pocket or remove the click when the worker wants to see the gas concentration on the display or manipulate the switch or other parts of the detector.
The object of this invention, which has been made the problem described above, is to provide a portable gas detector that determines gas concentration by manipulation similar to that of a wristwatch.
A portable gas detector according to this invention comprises a casing that can be fastened to a wrist by means of a band, the casing having cylindrical bores to hold at least one sensor at right angles to the band and a display panel and operating switches.
The portable gas detector of this invention just described permits reading the kind and concentration of gas, time and other data with ease, without removing from the clothing, and protects the sensor from damage that might be caused by collision with other objects. In zhe accompanying drawings:1 is a perspective view showing a preferred of this invention. 2 is a top view of the casing of the same Fi g. embodiment Fig. embodiment.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation showing the right side of the casing of the same, embodiment.
Fig. 4 is a top view of the same embodiment displaying the measured data. Preferred Embodiment of the Invention Now an embodiment of this invention will be described in the following.
Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of this invention. A main body 1 comprises a casing 3 adapted to be fastened to a wrist by means of a band 2, the surface of the casing 3 being divided into a central zone containing a display panel 4 to 2 show at least gas concentration and time at a time, an upper zone (shown in the upper part of the figure) containing sensors 8 and 9 extending parallel to the axis of the wrist and perpendicular to the band 2, and a lower zone (shown in the lower part of the figure) containing a power switch 5 and function selection switches 6 and 7.
The casing 3 is horizontally split into a main case 3a and a top cover 3b. The main case 3a is surrounded by sealing materials 10 and 11 and has bores 12 and 13 to fasten the sensors in place on both sides thereof, as shown in Fig. 2. A circuit board 14 holding a signal processing unit to process signals from the sensors 8 and 9, a time signal generating unit, a memory for trend display, a display unit 15 and a display driver to drive the display unit 15 is mounted in the center. The bottom of the main case is configured to match the roundness of the wrist, as shown in Fig. 3.
The top cover 3b is shaped substantially like the main case 3a. Ridges 16 and 17 rising slightly above the surface of the display panel 4 are provided on both sides of the display panel 4 for protecting the display panel from damage. Frames 18 and 19 are provided above the display panel 4 to affix adhesive seals to show the kind of gases to be detected.
When the sensors 8 and 9 are mounted in the cylindrical bores formed by the main case 3a and the top cover 3b, the plug pins thereon fit into the socket holes in circuit boards 3 and 21 and thereby establish connection with the circuit board 14. When frames.12 and 23 having gas intakes are fastened to the casing 3 in this condition, the senso rs 8 and 9 are fastened to the casing 3. Reference numerals 24 and 26 denote power conduction patterns and 27 an alarm generator.
When the detector is fastened to the wrist by means of the band 2 so that the power switch 5 and function selection switch 6 are close to the body, the person carrying the detector can look squarely at the information given on the display panel 4 by bending his arm as when looking at the time on a wristwatch. The power switch 5 and function selection switches 6 and 7 on the other side permits easy display switching, power on-off and other operations.
The display panel 4 indicates the kind of gas whose concentration is measured, such as Oxygen, at the left of the top, the current gas concentration, such as 19.6 %, at the right of the top, and a line graph to show the trend of gas concentration, residual battery charge, and current time, such as 10:58, from left to right, in the bottom, as shown in Fig. 4. Indication of time, in addition to the information of the gas, eliminates the need to use a wristwatch.
Even if something hits the detector during work, the relatively fragile sensors 8 and 9 are safeguarded against damage by the upper part of the arm where it is mounted.
Although the embodiment described above has two sensors, 4 only one sensor may be mounted by with a cover.
