Abstract

A device to prevent a bath from overflowing comprises a hollow tube 1 that is detachably attached to the drain hole of a bath via prongs 2 at one of the tube that engage with holes in the baths plughole 3. The mouth of the tube may be angled or vertical and provides an outlet when the bath water reaches a certain level, thereby preventing the bath from overflowing. Preferably the tube has a seal 4 around the circumference of the tube above the prongs to prevent water leaking past the tube into the drain hole. The tube may be of a fixed length or telescopic.

This invention relates to a device that will prevent a bath from overflowing if the taps are inadvertently left running.
Current measures to deal with this problem seem to involve complex, and therefore expensive, plumbing alterations, but the device described in this specification is of a simple design, arid may be used with standard baths without the need for any alterations.
With reference to Fig. 1, which shows one example of the device, the device comprises a tube 1 -which may be a fixed length, or telescopic, or able to be disassembled into separate parts -which has prongs 2 at the lower end. When the tube is push fitted into the bath plughole 3 the prongs, which may be smooth, ribbed, or have other projections, grip the side of the holes into which they are inserted, and provide a tight fit. A seal 4 on the circumference of the tube above the prongs presses onto the surround of the plug hole and so prevents leakage. The upper end of the tube, either vertical or angled, provides an outlet for the bath water when a certain level is reached, and so prevents the bath from overflowing. When a bath is to be taken the device is pulled out of the plughole and the normal plug is inserted.

  1. Claims I / A device to prevent baths from overflowing by means of providing an outlet for the water, when a certain level is reached, by means of a tube of fixed length, or otherwise, having prongs at the lower end which push fit into the holes of the bath plughole.
    2/ A device to prevent baths from overflowing according to claim I, with a seal on the circumference of the tube above the prongs to press onto the surround of the bath plughole and so prevent leakage.
