Abstract

Windings.-A multipolar dynamo-electric machine has an armature wound with a lap winding and a wave winding, the wave winding forming equalizing connections for the lap winding and being wound distinct from or forming part of the lap winding. Fig. 2 shows a portion of the armature winding, four lap-wound coils 45, 55, 56, 57 together with four wave-wound coils 52, 58, 59, 60 being connected to commutator segments 1, 5. The location of the lap and wave coils with regard to the field poles A - - H is symmetrical, that is to say, the four lap coils are disposed in relation to the poles A, B while the four wave coils are similarly disposed in relation to the remaining poles. Between equipotential points, for example between segments 32 and 8, lap coil 61 and wave coil 64 are equalized. The slot pitch of each winding may be equal and full pitch, or it may be equal and short pitch or one may be short pitch and the other long pitch. The lap winding may be simplex or multiplex, and, for example, if the winding is triplex, the wave winding is nine times re-entrant and interconnected with the individual lap windings. The number of circuits through the armature is equal in the case of both windings. If the lap winding has a forward pitch the wave winding has a backward pitch and vice versa. The wave winding may be distinct, or, as shown in Fig. 7, the coil sides c, d, c', d<1> may form portions of the lap and wave windings combined. A formula, relating the number of windings, slots, coils per slot, and pairs of poles is given. Specification 150,752 is referred to.
