Abstract
297,162. Cutmore, C. M. June 24, 1927. Signs.-An advertising sign comprises in combination a stencil 3, Fig. 2. a transparent reflecting surface 2, which is so situated as to reflect an image of the stencil when illuminated by daylight, and a second stencil 4 which is adapted to be artificially illuminated so as to become visible through the transparent reflecting surface. An external lamp may be used, or, as shown, lamps 7 for lighting the second stencil may be enclosed in the sign; these lamps may also illumine external objects. The second stencil may be in strips, as shown, or it may be a vertical sheet. The stencils may be similar or different. and they may be so arranged as to be visible both at the same time. One or more additional stencils may be employed behind the lamps 7 so that when the lamps are in use the sign exhibits its advertisements in several directions. In the modification shown in Fig; 6, a single stencil 4 is arranged on the front of the transparent mirror 2. The mirror may be a sheet of plate glass. a thinly-silvered mirror, or one with alternate strips of clear and silvered surfaces. Coloured glass 5, 6 may be used with the stencils, or the latter may'be painted on coloured glass. Specification 279,521 is referred to.
