297,502. Tooby, C. F., and Langford, P. N. June 24, 1927. Addition to 270,476. Open fireplaces.-In the stove described in the parent Specification the areas of the openings leading to the chimney from the spaces above and below the fire-bars are controlled by a pivoted plate l, which can be adjusted to lie against the back of the chimney opening, or forwardly to lie against the front of the opening k, or intermediately. In the construction shown the back plate extends up to meet the front h of the chimney, and the up-draught opening k is formed in it. In the modified construction shown in Figs. 4 and 5 the rear flue is enclosed by a back plate p and sides q, the stove thus forming a self-contained unit which is placed in the fireplace, with the open upper end inserted into the chimney opening.
