Abstract
315,015. Groves, W. E. April 4, 1928. Plug couplings.-The socket member of a plug and socket coupling is provided with a number of pairs of sockets to receive a number of plugs of different sizes. Fig. 2 shows in section a member having three pairs of sockets. Three of the sockets are formed in a metal piece c, the other three sockets being in a similar metal piece spaced apart from the block c. The sockets j, k, l form pairs with the corresponding sockets in the second metal piece to receive plugs m, n, o. One or both of the metal pieces c may be formed in two parts secured together but separated by an insulating washer e as shown in Fig. 8. The two parts are connected by a fuse which bridges pillars h standing up from the two sections of the block c. The latter may be formed with an earthing terminal. Figs. 13, 14 show a modification in which the sockets j, k, l are formed in one face of the metal blocks c, the two blocks being inclined as shown in Fig. 13 to allow plugs to be used having different distances between the pins. The front of the fitting is closed by a cover p and a fuse g is situated in a part i of the casing. The first Provisional Specification states that a switch may be combined with the socket, and the third Provisional Specification states that the two portions of the divided metal blocks may be so connected as to provide a slight swivelling movement between the portions.
